Is Clarence Demar a Boston Qualifier?
Yes. The Clarence DeMar Marathon is an official Boston Marathon qualifier. The BAA has made recent changes in their registration process and made qualifying times more challenging. The BAA expects to announce when they will open registration for the 2014 Boston Marathon in July. The last 2 years, registration opened before we ran DeMar. However, with more challenging qualifying times, and a staggered registration process, Boston did not close out until over a week after we ran DeMar in 2012. Your ability to qualify for the 2014 Boston Marathon will be dependent on when Boston closes out, and how much you beat your qualifying time by. We had 2012 DeMar finishers who ran BQ's and were able to get into the 2013 Boston Marathon. The timing of DeMar is such that a 2013 DeMar BQ will provide you with the opportunity to register for the 2014 and 2015 Boston Marathon. |
Is anything being done to recognize the events at the 2013 Boston Marathon?
We are planning a number of things to honor all victims of the attacks at the 2013 Boston Marathon and recognize the countless heroes for their actions during and after the attacks. As details are confirmed, we will continue to update our web site with those specifics. As of now, we know that our runner and volunteer shirts will have something to recognize the event, and efforts are being finalized for a contribution to the OneFund for additional support to victims.
Are any measures being taken to increase safety following the attacks at the Boston Marathon?
The Clarence DeMar Marathon and the Keene Elm City Rotary club have been in communication with the City of Keene and local law enforcement officials regarding security and public safety following the events at the 2013 Boston Marathon. All agencies involved with producing this community wide event are working together to ensure the safety of our runners, volunteers and spectators.
